There are a number of important school policies which can be found on the school website.
Please refer to the website for more information.
This policy emphasises the need for good levels of communication between all members of the School community and those with designated responsibility for child safeguarding. Safeguarding our students is more than just child protection.
Therefore, we recognise that the safety of all students is of paramount importance and that all staff and members of the school community, including volunteers, have a full and active part to play in protecting our students from any form of harm.
As communication is paramount, parents should ensure that the School has at least two emergency contacts for their child(ren).
We believe that the School should provide a caring, positive, safe and stimulating environment which promotes all students' social, physical, emotional and moral development. Ultimately, effective safeguarding of children can only be achieved by putting children at the centre of the system, and by every individual and agency playing their full part, working together to meet the needs of all our students.
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility.
Attendance
Parents must play a central role by ensuring their children attend school regularly and arrive to school on time, properly dressed and equipped. If a child starts to miss lessons due to absences, they are likely to be less motivated to learn, have difficult relationships with their peers and teachers, less commitment to their learning and are at risk of underachieving. Attendance at school is vitally important for the success of your child’s progress and achievement.
Attendance will be measured every tutor/class time registration (07:45am) and in 9-week blocks, therefore there will be 4 attendance checks each academic year. At each of these stages, students should maintain 95% or higher. If a student drops below 95% then actions will be taken.
Parental Responsibility
Parents play an important role in ensuring their child continues to make progress at school by guaranteeing regular atten- dance. There are a number of important steps that parents can take to ensure their son/daughter maintains a high level of attendance:
1. Ensure their child attends every day, on time, equipped and ready to learn. House tutors/class teacher will 1 take registration at 07:45am
2. Ensure the School has up to date email addresses and telephone numbers. We will contact parents by telephone or email if your child is absent and you have not contacted the school. This ensures that a missing child is quickly identified.
3. If a parent wishes to check their child has arrived at school, they should contact the school reception who will inform parents if their child has been registered
4. Doctor’s notes are required for health absences for longer than 1 day. The student should submit these to the tutors/class teacher or the PE Department if they are to be excused from the PE lesson.
