ARTS AT GALLUS ACADEMY
an introduction to the arts supports a child’s development in language, mathematics, social skills and academics

At Gallus Academy, we recognise the importance of an arts-rich education and the benefits of self-expression and exploration in the school environment. Our schools view the arts as a pathway for students to investigate the world through complex lenses and build their knowledge of classic and modern artforms.

Basic concepts are introduced during the Foundation phase. Students learn how to share their art and interpretations with their peers and teachers. This development continues through the Sankofa phase with introduction to co-curricular opportunities for performing arts (theatre, dance, music) and visual art lessons focusing on design and technology. Students are encouraged to explore a range of art forms and discover subjects to suit their interests. During the Sankofa phase, subjects such as creative industries, design technologies and major theatre productions provide students with real-life learning opportunities. They learn that designing, producing, and resolving their work is essential to the arts, as well as business skills, team work and fostering a sense of belonging and self-belief within their chosen field.

The Performing Arts (music, theatre, dance)

Music
Music is an essential component of the elementary school curriculum and has been shown to help students develop the skills and attributes that support learning in other subjects, namely spatial-temporal reasoning skills and the ability to think in patterns and pictures.

Gallus Academy students have the opportunity to attend weekly music classes where they are introduced to the world of music and singing. T
he music program introduces students to musical terminology and notations. Through active participation and performance starting with vocal exploration and basic rhythms, students advance to playing instruments as well as developing the skills to differentiate between instrument families. Over the years, students will become familiar with different genres of music and music history, including learning to appreciate the contributions of famous composers.

Visual Arts
The visual arts program nurtures creativity and technical skill development. Students progress from basic art techniques to advanced concepts in drawing, photography, painting, sculpture and fashion design. The curriculum emphasizes both traditional and contemporary art forms, allowing students to express themselves through mixed media while mastering fundamental artistic principles.

Cultural Education
Gallus Academy’s culture education program nurtures respect for traditions, global awareness, and personal identity, equipping students to thrive in a diverse world. By integrating cultural heritage into the curriculum, celebrating diversity, promoting language learning, and engaging in global and community partnerships, we foster empathy, critical thinking, and adaptability. Our program prepares students to value diversity, cherish their heritage and become culturally sensitive global citizens.
